Review: While We Waited by Tammy Falkner (Reed Brothers #8)

Benjamin "Tag" Taggert, Jr. knew his sisters Jenny and Jessica were his only hope if he wanted to take his son home with him. But Tag hasn't seen either of his sisters in years, though he does know that they were adopted and are now known as Wren and Star Vasquez, both members of Fallen from Zero, an all-girl band. He's expecting the worst when he sees them again, but what he doesn't expect is to end up in bed with their adopted sister Finch, who is as known for her music as she is for her infamous one-night stands.
Finch "Finny" Vasquez makes no apologies for the fact that she'll have sex with a guy once and won't allow him to linger in her bed any longer than necessary. But that was before she slept with Tag, biological brother of two of her adopted sisters. Not only did they actually sleep in the same bed but he upped and left before she could even decide to kick him out. He's different from all the other guys she's been with and he breaks down her walls with his patience and understanding. Could he be the one man worth falling for?
While We Waited by Tammy Falkner is the eighth full-length novel and fourteenth overall Reed Brothers series release. There's a bit of an overlap with the beginning of this book and its predecessor since Tag's two reunions with his sisters are turning points in both stories. Tag and Finny are two people with seemingly different outlooks on life but there's a connection that they share and that neither of them appears to be ready to truly let go of, though Tag is able to acknowledge said connection better than Finny, who's at a loss over the fact that she hasn't slept with anyone since Tag. With Finny's reputation, people are more wary of her actions, especially her own sisters, which I admit is a pretty funny touch to the story.
There's remarkably less steam in this book than those you'd find in the first seven full-length installments, due in large part to Tag's declaration that he wants to wait until they both know each other better and that they're both sure about where whatever's going on between is headed. I did like the focus on Tag's faith and Finny's point that it isn't about a religion. This book had a different feel to it and one that I quite appreciated because it did stand out from the ones that came before it and in a good way. The ending also piqued my curiosity and I'm going to assume that the next story in the series will be centered on Lark Vasquez and Ryan Shepherd. All in all, While We Waited was a good read and one that gets four stars. ♥
