After losing her sister and brother-in-law to an accident, artist Cassie Reynolds left her life in New York to take care of her niece and the bed and breakfast her sister owned. It's been a month and her niece Ella is still a shadow of the energetic child she once was, refusing to speak to anyone and challenging Cassie's authority. She's trying the do the best she can, but it seems rancher Ty Barnett only sees her at her worst.

He may have been named Ella's financial guardian but Ty Barnett intends to keep the promise he made to one of his closest friends and be there to make sure Cassie always has Ella's best interests at heart. The woman tests his patience time and again, but after one kiss, things between them heat up even more. Is Ty ready to trust Cassie and give her his whole heart or has his painful past damaged him beyond any repair?

To Love a Texas Cowboy is the first book in the new contemporary cowboy romance series entitled Wishing, Texas from author Julie Benson. Cassie Reynolds and Ty Barnett are entrusted with the care of Ella Mitchell, the six-year-old daughter of Cassie's older sister and brother-in-law and Ty's business partner and close friend, respectively, after they both pass away. Ty is in charge of overseeing Ella's financial future while Cassie handles everything else, but the two are constantly at odds. This is a love story about two seemingly different people who are able to find something in common--their love and concern for Ella--and discover that what makes them different is what balances them both out perfectly.

There's quite a bit of bickering between Cassie and Ty, so this definitely feels like a enemies to lovers romance. It takes a good while for them to find some common ground, but when they do, there's still hesitance to actually cross that line between being co-guardians to more. Family is obviously important to both of them and I liked how these two were able to come together in order to have a united front in caring for Ella. I would have wanted maybe a bit more on Cassie's family history, especially since her relationship with her father could have used more delving into. All in all, To Love a Texas Cowboy was a sweet and sassy story with characters that you can't help but like for their being fun and feisty. This gets four stars. ♥
