Review: Seasons of Love by Harper Bliss

Note: This ARC was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
I've read a number of Harper Bliss's books, and I do believe that I've found myself a new favorite with her latest release, Seasons of Love. This was such a beautifully told story about fifty-one-year-old Alice McAllister, a solicitor who co-owns a self-started business with her best friend, and twenty-nine-year-old Joy Perkins, Alice's best friend's daughter. At the insistence of her best friend Miranda Jones, Alice takes a two-week vacation in Portugal but the solitude she thought she would have is soon lost upon the arrival of Miranda's daughter Joy. Alice and Joy are opposites, but Joy constantly prods at Alice and Alice's own curiosity of the young woman who surprises her by admitting that she's a lesbian is at an all-time high. The vacation in Portugal changes their relationship to more, but it is Alice who undergoes the greatest change.
Seasons of Love is Alice's journ…

Review: Hard Ever After by Laura Kaye (Hard Ink #5)

Note: This ARC was provided by Avon Impulse via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.
"I love you with everything that I am, and everything I want to be. Please do me the greatest honor of my life and say you'll be my wife, my partner, my best friend, my companion. Becca Merritt, will you marry me?"
"Only you. Always you. Forever you, Nick. Yes."
I've been anxious to read Hard Ever After ever since it was announced last year, and now that I'm done reading it, suffice it to say that it was worth waiting for. This was the perfect end (and yes, I know that there's another novella in the Hard Ink series) to the story Nick Rixey and Becca Merritt. They started the ball rolling with Hard as It Gets, so I think that it's only fitting that it's their happily-ever-after that closes out the story of the men and women of Hard Ink. And did you notice how the acronym for the book's title and "happily ever after" are the same? Me think…

Review: Break Me Like a Promise by Aria Grace & Kyan Christopher (Promises #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by Enticing Journey Book Promotions in exchange for an honest review.
Aria Grace and Kyan Christopher have gotten together for a brand new series set in a gym called Sculpt and the people who work and work out there called Promises, with series starter Break Me Like a Promise introducing readers to four central characters, each of whom told the story from their respective points of view: brothers and Sculpt owners Tad and Brent Thomas, advertising executive Luke Baker, and Sculpt employee Marissa (whose last name I don't recall being mentioned). Another supporting character, accountant Beverly, also tells the story from her viewpoint, but she's the main antagonist in the story, and every bit the unlikable person she's portrayed to be. This was a really fast-paced story, one that was able to hold my interest and brought with it the creative touch of having more than the usual number of POVs.
Tad and Brent are fulfilling their dream of having a su…

Review: Yes, Chef by Alex Cohen

Note: This ARC was provided by Less Than Three Press via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Yes, Chef is a novella set in the always fascinating (at least as far I'm concerned) world of professional kitchens and was written by Alex Cohen. Here we have Diego Ramirez, a forty-two-year-old executive chef in a successful and popular restaurant in Michigan known as The Local Dish, and Ben Walsh, a newly acquired twenty-nine-year-old (though that's only my educated guess based on the information about him in the story) pastry chef and the restaurant owner's nephew. Diego is wary of Ben, not only because of the nepotism involved in his hiring, but because of his attraction to this man who is much younger than him. The acrimonious end of his decade-long relationship has also left Diego jaded, so he keeps his distance from Ben, even though the attraction is quite mutual. Will it be too late before Diego comes to his senses?
Even though the story did drag for a while, what w…

Book Spotlight: Reckless by Kimberly Kincaid

Reckless (Rescue Squad #1) by Kimberly Kincaid Release Date: January 26, 2016 Zebra
About Reckless Someone's bound to get burned...
Zoe Westin may be a fire captain’s daughter, but feeding the people in her hometown of Fairview is her number one priority. Running a soup kitchen is also the perfect way to prove to her dad that helping people doesn’t always mean risking life and limb. But when she's saddled with a gorgeous firefighter doing community service after yet another daredevil stunt, the kitchen has never been so hot.
Alex Donovan thrives on adrenaline, and stirring a pot of soup doesn’t exactly qualify. He’s not an expert at following the rules either, not even when they come from the stubborn, sexy daughter of the man who's not only his boss, but his mentor. Determined to show Zoe that not every risk ends in catastrophe, Alex challenges her both in the kitchen and out. One reckless step leads to another, but will falling for each other be a risk worth taking, or will it…

Review: Reckless by Kimberly Kincaid (Rescue Squad #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by Kensington Books via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
There's something about a firefighter for a male lead character in a romance novel that makes you expect the story to be hot (pun intended), and hot is exactly what Alex Donovan is in Kimberly Kincaid's Rescue Squad series starter. Reckless is what people think of when Alex comes to mind. He's an eight-year veteran of Engine Eight, and while he's one of the best firefighters around, his reputation for being too much of a risk taker isn't a good one. When he disobeys an order and pushes a rival squad's captain in the process, his own captain is left with no other choice but to take him to task for his actions. He's put on unpaid leave and mandatory community service for four weeks at a soup kitchen called Hope House. He could probably charm his way out of it...until he realizes the director is Zoe Westin, his captain's one and only daughter.
Reckless is one of …
