Review: Dirty Tricks by Emma Hart (Burke Brothers #4)

Note: This ARC was provided by InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review.

We're now down to the last and only remaining single one among the Burke Brothers and Kye Burke, who has always been somewhat of a mystery along with his twin Aidan, pursues the possibility of happily-ever-after with the one girl who doesn't seem to believe in it--Chelsey Young. In this fourth book, Dirty Tricks, Emma Hart gives us a female lead character who doesn't want to be with the dreamy, bad boy (who's actually a really good guy with a good heart) rock star, which is already interesting enough to hook you from the beginning. Now, that's not to say that she doesn't want to sleep with him or even be spend time with him. In Chelsey's case, she simply doesn't want to be in a relationship with Kye because experience has taught her that rock stars don't do commitment and even when they try, they fail miserably. She has her father, who himself is known in the music world and whose bed-hopping habits were no secret to Chelsey, to thank for her jaded views, but Kye isn't the kind of guy to give up on Chelsey or love too easily.

Chelsey was introduced to fans of the series in the third book and that's also where her initial hook-up with Kye takes place. She tends to turn to a bottle of Jack Daniels to deal with whatever issues are going on in her head and she's admittedly one very bitchy and mean female, but just like Kye, there's more to her than meets the eye. There are reasons for her behavior but she doesn't make excuses for it. She is who she is and I think that's what makes her pause and actually contemplate how real Kye's feelings for her are. Why? Because he accepts her, bitchiness and all, and is more than willing to show her how committed he is to her. My heart broke for Kye because, of all the brothers, he was the one who didn't seem to have any issue about the idea of being in a relationship and yet he seemed to have had to work the hardest to convince his girl that he was worth the risk. Ah, these Burke brothers may have lots of women, but when the love, they give it their all. Dirty Tricks gets four stars. I wonder if Leila Burke will get her own story... ♥
