Review: Proving Paul's Promise by Tammy Falkner (Reed Brothers #5)
Paul Reed may be Friday's boss but she's the only woman able to put him in his place whenever necessary. He's been flirting with her ever since she began working in the tattoo shop the Reeds own but he knows nothing will ever come of it, what with her being a lesbian and all. But one kiss from Friday makes it blatantly clear she isn't actually a lesbian and has never been one, a tidbit that was kept from Paul by his brothers. Now Paul wants to prove to Friday that they're meant to be together, but Friday's walls seem impenetrable and if she's not willing to let Paul in, there may be no promising future for the two of them.
Proving Paul's Promise is the fifth full-length novel and the ninth in the reading order of Tammy Falkner's popular Reed Brothers series. Paul has always taken his responsibility as the eldest Reed brother to heart, making whatever sacrifices necessary for his brothers. He's also a father to his daughter Hayley and has been known to have a friends with benefits relationship with his ex-girlfriend and Hayley's mother. He's always had a thing for Friday (whose last name I can't seem to recall being mentioned in any of the books...but then I could very well be wrong on that point) and she's always had a thing for him, and after years of Paul believing she was a lesbian and Friday being less than thrilled about Paul's relationship with his ex, they cross the line that they've been toeing for so long.
The thing is, Friday's got secrets and baggage and Paul's always been known to want to fix everything right away. Not everyone, though, appreciates it when you involve yourself in their problems or issues. Some people prefer to do things on their own, on their time table. Of course, it can also be argued, that there are times that it's necessary to give some people a push or give them that helping hand that they never realized they needed or wanted. Both Paul and Friday have complicated pasts, though Paul's has always been out in the open, especially if you've followed the series from the beginning, while Friday's is only seeing the light of day with this particular installment. I will say that Friday was such a multi-layered character and if anyone could make her believe in a future, it would only be Paul.
There's a twist in the story that I wasn't expecting and with the way it played out, I ended up a bit teary-eyed. It leaves you with a question that isn't answered here but will be in the sixth full-length novel. It may seem like a minor thing but actually is an important part to the history of these five brothers, most especially Paul. Just when I thought there was no surprising me when it came to this series, Tammy Falkner went ahead and did exactly that with the revelation and I couldn't help but feel for these guys. They really have been through a great deal and yet, as long as they're together, it appears they'll be ready to face anything and be better men for it. The Reed Brothers series is a personal favorite and I'm glad I've now read the available books. Five stars for Proving Paul's Promise. ♥
