Review: When We Met by Marni Mann (Moments in Boston #2)

I have a feeling that part of this review is going to sound a bit like the one I penned for When Ashes Fall, the first Moments in Boston novel, back in January of 2019. I also had a song playing in my head while reading this book. Yeah, yeah. I know a lot of authors and readers create playlists, but with me and this book? Well, it was only one song: "Quit Playing Games with My Heart" by the Backstreet Boys. Don't give me that look. I have a thing for boy bands, and well, this song is a pop classic. Why this song? It's for Marni Mann because goodness gracious me, my heart felt like it had run a marathon (pun NOT intended!) and decided it could do with a triathlon right after. But boy, it was so worth it.

When We Met is told in three parts and with three narrators: Caleb Hunt, Whitney Scott, and Emily Miles. No, this is not a story about a love triangle; it's Caleb and Whitney's, and Emily plays a pivotal part of their story, what with being Whitney's best friend. I can't go into too much detail apart from what I've already mentioned. Whatever you think you may have picked up from the official blurb won't prepare you for the story that Marni Mann has created. I certainly wasn't! This was essentially a story about choices--the ones we could have made, the ones we wish we could take back, and ultimately, the ones we do make and have to live with. And just like with When Ashes Fall, my heart went through a gamut of emotions, cracking at certain points of Caleb and Whitney's story, but thumping quite happily by the end. When We Met is a standout read with five-plus stars.

Review: The Room Mate by Kendall Ryan (Roommates #1)

I do believe I've found myself a new book boyfriend to drool, erm, swoon over in Cannon Roth, male main character in bestselling author Kendall Ryan's Roommates series starter, The Room Mate . This had a familiar romance trope--falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling--and yet I didn't find it boring or tiresome in any way. This has both heart and heat as well as lighthearted humor along with a bit of heart-tugging angst and it's headlined by a couple of main characters that I was totally smitten with from the moment Paige got a pretty good idea of just how much her best friend's younger brother Cannon had grown up from the nerdy boy who followed them around like a puppy when they were kids.
