Review: The Temptation by Nikki Sloane (Filthy Rich Americans #5)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Valentine PR.

Hale-llujah! Nikki Sloane returns to her Filthy Rich Americans series with the fifth novel, The Temptation. This time around we have Vance McHale's story, Vance being the twenty-seven-year-old son of Macalister (The Redemption) and brother of Royce (The Initiation, The Obsession, and The Deception). Just when Vance has set his mind on changing his playboy ways, along comes Emery Mendenhall. While he may be focused on winning a bet by not allowing any woman to touch him, Emery has her own plans--ones that involve him. For ten years, she's wanted nothing but vengeance, and Vance is just the man to help her achieve it. In return for him helping her gain access to Cape Hill's exclusive world of the rich and powerful, she'll make sure he wins that bet. Their relationship may well be fake, but the temptation to indulge in the passionate connection they have is all too real.

The wait for another Filthy Rich Americans novel may have been over a year and a half, but Nikki Sloane made that wait a fabulously worthwhile one. I swear, the Hale men are in a class all their own, and I appreciate the fact that Sloane has made the effort to ensure that each story is unique. I mean, would I expect anything else from the author and for these characters? Vance and Emery's story is fraught with tension, and it's the best possible kind. There's sex and romance and intrigue, and with layered main characters like these two, is it really any surprise that their story is as complex as it is? But that's what I loved about this book. Sloane doesn't underestimate her readers and their ability to keep up with what happens between the covers. While Macalister remains my favorite Hale male, Vance certainly gave him a run for his money. Five stars go to The Temptation.
