Review: The Boss by Melanie Moreland (Men of Hidden Justice #1)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

Oh, wow! This book was so different from what I've gotten used to from Melanie Moreland. I applaud an author who flex their creative muscles and try their hand at something outside of their norm. Of course, I say this based on my reading experience when it comes to Moreland's work. Fair to say that said experience is rather limited since I've yet to read majority of her work, so take my review with a pinch of salt, okie dokes?

The Boss is the first book in the Men of Hidden Justice series and introduces readers to a secret organization dedicated to rescuing the innocent and seeking justice on their behalf. Evelyn Harper's first glimpse of Matteo Campari involves him taking the lives of four people. Instead of killing her for witnessing what he's done, Matteo offers her an alternative: marry him. But as Evie Campari, will she truly be free or trapped once again?

Ah, this was a really good read, one that I finished in a single go. Evie and Matteo fascinated me, and watching their relationship evolve was one of my favorite things about this book. Another favorite were the snippets of the organization Matteo was a part of, and the supporting cast of characters had lots of potential for future Men of Hidden Justice books. With a balance of romance and suspense, The Boss was a five-starred read.
