Review: The Lost Fisherman by Jewel E. Ann (Fisherman #2)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Valentine PR.

The Lost Fisherman is the second and final Fisherman duet from Jewel E. Ann. A quick FYI: The books must be read in order--The Naked Fisherman first, followed by The Lost Fisherman--because there is a continuing story line featuring the same main characters, Reese Capshaw and Fisher Mann, throughout. The first chapter of the new book picks up where the previous novel left off, and then the rest of it takes place four years after that.

After a life-changing summer in Denver at eighteen, Reese Capshaw has matured into a young woman pursuing her own hopes and dreams. It's been five years since she last saw Fisher Mann, the man ten years her senior who knocked her world of its all-too-rigid axis. Reese finds herself returning to Denver when she receives shocking news. What sort of reception will she receive when Fisher sees her again and is there still a chance for them?

I was truly hoping The Lost Fisherman would have me warming up more towards Reese and Fisher, more the former than the latter, but it pains me to say that the needle didn't nudge all that much. It's highly possible that this is a case of "it's me, not you," and that saddens me because I've so enjoyed many of Jewel E. Ann's books in the past. I continue to appreciate her creativity and originality, even if this duet didn't entirely click with me.

Just like with the first book, most of the second book is told from the perspective of Reese, with Fisher getting his viewpoint with the epilogue. It wasn't as much of an issue here as it was in the previous book. I wish I could explain why, but I have a feeling it would be a wee bit too spoiler-y if I attempt to, which is also why I don't want to go too much into detail story-wise. Taking everything into consideration, The Lost Fisherman gets 3.5 stars.
