Review: Our Star-Crossed Kiss by Piper Rayne (Rooftop Crew #4)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the authors via Wildfire Marketing Solutions.

Piper Rayne's latest addition to their Rooftop Crew series has a Romeo and Juliet feel to it minus the tragedy aspect from the Shakespearean classic. Our Star-Crossed Kiss is the story of Seth Andrews and Evan Erickson, two former best friends whose friendship became collateral damage when their fathers went from friends and business partners to bitter rivals, sparking a feud between their families and businesses. Years later, Seth's and Evan's paths crisscross once again when the Andrews and Erickson families vie to become part of a reality show on the Food Channel. When Evan approaches Seth and asks him to pretend to be her boyfriend, he decides to take things up a notch by insisting that they fake an engagement--their engagement--instead. But pretending to be in love and ready to get hitched is way easier said than done, especially with their families involved.

Okay, bagels aren't exactly my favorite in terms of bread-type things to eat, mainly because they're not as readily available in my neck of the woods, so it's usually plain ol' sliced bread or soft bread rolls for me. However, bagels are a big deal in the story of Seth and Evan, and after I was done reading their story, I confess that I had a bit of a craving for the darn things. I quite enjoyed reading about these two main characters and getting to know them and their families and the whole history of how they went from friends to enemies to lovers. As always, Piper Rayne don't disappoint when it comes to serving up that mix of humorous romance, and this circle of friends that they've gathered together for the Rooftop Crew series has proven to be an entertaining and endearing one. I'm giving Our Star-Crossed Kiss 4.5 stars, and already have book five on my to-be-read list!
