Review: Sin of Love by L.M. Halloran (Illusions #2)
Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Give Me Books Promotions.
Sin of Love is the awaited conclusion to L.M. Halloran's Illusions duet, and after the stellar writing in book one, Art of Sin, I had really high expectations for this sequel. So, did it live up to them? Kinda. Sorta. Maybe. I'll get to that later on. Just a quick FYI: I may mention things here that could prove to be spoilery when it comes to the first book. So, be warned because the last thing I want to do is spoil it for anyone and everyone who has yet to read Art of Sin. Remember: these two books NEED to be read in order because one cannot stand on its own without the other.
When last we saw Deidre Moss and Gideon Masters, things were not too great. They've been forced apart, and any sort of saving Deidre is neither easy nor quick. I felt for these two, but goodness, after a bit, it felt torturous already, as if it was being stretched farther than it had to be. No, I didn't want any sort of fast resolution, but it did take really long for certain things to progress. That being said, though, there was still a lot to love about this book, especially with regards to the author's quality of writing and some of the necessary risks that she took with this.
This book marks my second L.M. Halloran read, and clearly, I've been missing out. This author had a story to tell and she told it very well. She's also put together two main characters who are, by no means, perfect people, but neither one of them is what I'd consider stereotypical either. Deidre is dark to Gideon's light, and while nothing about their being a couple was easy, all the trials and complexities were worth it in the end. 4.5 stars for Sin of Love. A reminder: there could be triggers here regarding forms of assault. With that in mind, check out this duet! ♥
