Review: Malum: Part One by Amo Jones (Elite Kings Club #4)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Social Butterfly PR.

Oh wow. In preparation for Malum: Part One, I made a point of reading the box set of the series which was composed of the first three novels, but nothing could have appropriately prepared me for the story of Tillie Stuprum and Nate Riverside-Malum. That doesn't mean, however, that you should skip those first three books--The Silver Swan, The Broken Puppet, and Tacet a Mortuis--because I highly recommend you read this series in order (shocker, right?) to give you a better idea what this exclusive club is all about and how their existence impacts those who choose--or are chosen--to become attached to its members. The main characters in this fourth book aren't strangers either to those who are familiar with the series, so go ahead...get sucked into all things Elite Kings.

How do I properly explain why this book is a must-read without giving too much away? Tillie and Nate's story isn't a hearts and flowers sort of read. A lot of it is rather heartrending, and Nate isn't exactly the easiest male main character to like. He's a walking contradiction, someone who doesn't treat Tillie well some of the time and then treats her like she's the one person who owns his heart the rest of the time. While Nate is a maelstrom that can topple anything and anyone that he sees fit to, Tillie is a more quiet force, but do not doubt that she is one to be reckoned with. There is far more going on here than you may have assumed going in, and Amo Jones will have you questioning everything you thought you already knew. Five stars for Malum: Part One. I need part two stat, please! ♥
