Review: The Virgin Gift by Lauren Blakely (After Dark: The Gift #2)

Two books in and I'm absolutely loving the fact that Lauren Blakely has ventured to the dark side, and by the "dark side", I mean her After Dark line of stories, each one decadently dirty yet just as addictive as her "usual" fare. Allow me to note that these books are not erotica, an observation that I already made in my review for the first in her After Dark: The Gift series, The Engagement Gift. Yes, they're more risque, and yes, they're more sexually adventurous, but they're still very much romance reads. These actually do have stories--worthwhile ones at that!
The Virgin Gift is all about twenty-four-year-old Nina Bellamy, a professional photographer who specializes in boudoir photography. She loves that she's able to help her clients tell their love stories with every shoot she has. She encourages them to be free and honest with their feelings--to express themselves without fear of embarrassment or judgment. How she wishes she could be as free. So, Nina decides to create a list of all her dirty fantasies. She never expected her neighbor, Adam Larkin, however to find the list or to learn that she's still a virgin.
This was a quick but really good read! I liked the connection that Nina and Adam had from the very beginning. They were already close friends and neighbors, but everything had been platonic between them, so the transition to lovers was an interesting one because it wasn't as if they had been actively lusting over one another for years. The sex was hot, and I loved the fluffier moments between Nina and Adam. There's also a mini side story involving Adam's best friend--and no, it's not like the one in The Engagement Gift--that I loved. Five stars for The Virgin Gift. ♥
