Review: The Engagement Gift by Lauren Blakely (After Dark #1)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

Ooh! Lauren Blakely is taking readers and fans to the dark side--and by "dark side", I'm talking about the devilishly decadent kind when it comes to romance fiction. I wouldn't necessarily consider The Engagement Gift, her first in her Lauren Blakely After Dark line of books, erotica but the heat level here is way higher than what you'd usually find in her earlier releases. Rest assured, this isn't just about sex. Blakely never fails to give us stories that are worth reading, and while the sex here is hotter than the norm for her, it's also a love story about trust and respect.

Lily Whiting is happy and in love. She knows she's got a great guy in her fiancé. Finn Nichols has always put her first and loves her with a passion. She's never shied away from sharing with him whatever's on her mind, including her dirtiest fantasies...except for one particular fantasy. After all, not every man would be thrilled to find out that the woman they live wants to engage in a threesome. But Finn isn't like every other man, and what Lily wants, Finn is more than willing to deliver. He's ready to give his bride one hot engagement gift: a threesome with his best friend.

Don't you love it when a go-to author pushes themselves outside of the box every now and again and surprises you with an awesome read? I loved that there was no room for misinterpretation with regards to the threesome, and that everything was made clear between all three parties. None of the usual insecurities or assumptions. This was simply about engaging in a sexual encounter that Lily had been fantasizing about for so long. Lauren Blakely has definitely whetted my appetite for even more from her After Dark series! The Engagement Gift gets five stars. ♥
