Review: Instant Gratification by Lauren Blakely (Always Satisfied #2)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

Lauren Blakely just took the falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling (or conversely, falling-for-your-sibling's-best-friend) romance trope and gave it a much appreciated slathering of maturity along with her always on-point humor. Instant Gratification is the second novel in her Always Satisfied series, and while this can be read as a standalone, there are recurring characters and not just from the first book, Satisfaction Guaranteed. So if you're looking for what I would consider a more well-rounded and enjoyable reading experience, I suggest you read the books in order. But again, this can be read independently, so feel free to jump right in if you've yet to read the series starter.

Instant Gratification is a friends-to-lovers story with some falling-for-you-best-friend's-sibling to make things even more interesting. Thirty-year-old Jason Reynolds is a Brit who's made New York his home and is building his brand as the Modern Gentleman on his blog and with his regular guestings on a popular podcast while also padding his income by being a "best man" for hire. In his downtime, he spends time with his friends, one of whom just happens to be Truly Goodman, the thirty-five-year-old twin sister of one of Jason's closest buddies. Six months ago, they shared the most unforgettable night together, but knew better in the light of day, and decided to stay in the friend zone. They flirt--hate-flirt!--but that's okay between friends. Because that's all they are--flirty friends. Right?

This author always makes it easy to fall for her main characters and want to cheer them on to their happily-ever-after. Jason and Truly had the banter and chemistry down pat and they whole hate-flirting thing made for some highly entertaining moments. I'm also happy to note that the whole expected complication with regards to Truly's twin brother, Malone--whose own happy ending can be read in the first book, Satisfaction Guaranteed--wasn't protracted or made more complicated than necessary. We also have two particular couples in the making, one of whom will be in the third book in the Always Satisfied series and the other whose book is supposed to be slated for release next year. Have I mentioned how giddy I am over the fact that there are already a slew of Lauren Blakely I'm excited to get my hands on? Gah! Fingers crossed that they're all as fantastic as Instant Gratification. Five stars. ♥
