Review: Love Block by S.M. West (Love Lock #1)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Give Me Books Promotions.

Avoidance can only last for so long before one is forced to face the reality of their situation. In the case of Drew Hayes, it comes in the form Pippa Raine showing up uninvited to his cottage--the same Pippa he's been in love with for years...the same Pippa who happens to be his best friend's younger sister AND his younger sister's best friend. He's avoided spending time with Pippa over the past year. He's avoided her PERIOD, and there's a good reason for that: falling for Pippa was a no-no, not if he wanted to keep his friendship with Finn Raine. Now, however, Pippa is right there in front of him, invading his space and proving to be one temptation he may no longer be able to block.

S.M. West is a new-to-me author, and Love Block, the first in her Love Lock duet, is my first read from her and she definitely made a strong--and quite positive!--impression on me. The whole falling-for-your-sibling's-best-friend trope is a highly popular one and believe me when I tell you that there's a plethora of books out there using it, so coming across one that stands out in a good way is something I consider a quest of sort. Fortunately, West's strong writing and beautiful tale of following your heart, gaining something momentously life-changing even if it means the possibility of losing something else. This series starter has a happy-for-now ending, with the second book, Love Lock, releasing on the fifth of September, so that's only a couple of weeks away. I'm awarding Love Block 4.5 stars. ♥
