Review: KPD SWAT Box Set by Lani Lynn Vale

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Wildfire Marketing Solutions.

I first came across Lani Lynn Vale's writing in the second half of last year, and I've been hooked ever since. Here's the thing though--because she's as prolific an author as she is, I have yet to catch up on her back list pre-Bear Bottom MC series. So, imagine my delight when the opportunity to read and review her KPD SWAT Box Set came along! I've already met a couple or so of the offspring from the couples in this series, and while I'm usually a stickler when it comes to reading books in a series in order, my curiosity tends to get the better of me when it comes to Vale because of all the recurring characters that appear from one series to another. With the author releasing the SWAT Generation 2.0 series next year, the timing to read the original KPD SWAT series was so perfect!

This box set contains seven full-length novels and one new novella, and they are, in order of original release: Center Mass, Double Tap, Bang Switch, Execution Style, Charlie Foxtrot, Kill Shot, and Coup de Grâce, plus A SWAT Call Before Christmas. Now, the copy I reviewed was not the final one, or at least I would assume so. The order in my ARC had the second book, Double Tap, as the final one before the holiday novella, so there were already a number of major spoilers that I had come across, which did take away from my total enjoyment of this book in particular. I'm hoping the formatting was fixed prior to publication, and this may be a one-off thing. So, no worries.

I don't want to go into a protracted review, going through each book in KPD SWAT Box Set. Since this was a series and not an anthology, allow me to simply convey my thoughts and feelings on the experience as a whole. As always, Lani Lynn Vale offered up a fun collection of stories featuring the men of the Kilgore Police Department's Special Weapons and Tactics (KPD SWAT) Team and the women who become their partners in life. I quite enjoyed each of the stories, and the bonus novella was like the ideal Christmas present to fans and readers of the series, bridging the KPD SWAT series with the upcoming SWAT Generation 2.0 spin-off, wrapping up Luke and Reese Roberts's, Nico and Georgia Peña's, Lock and Memphis Downy's, Miller and Mercy Spurlock's, Foster and Blake Spurlock's, Bennett and Lennox Alvarez's, and Michael and Nikki Perez's and their families' stories nicely. 4.5 stars! ♥

Date Read: 14-20 December 2019
