Review: Both of Us by Amber Kelly (Cross My Heart #2)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Wordsmith Publicity.

Both of Us is the second book in Amber Kelly's Cross My Heart duet and it concludes the story of Gabriella Mastreoni (aka Gabby and Brie) and Christoff Scutari (aka Cross). Fair warning: There may be details in this review that may spoil the first book, Both of Me, for readers who have yet to read it. Both books are directly connected to each other and must be read in order so as to wholly comprehend and better appreciate Gabby and Cross's story.

This picks up immediately after the events in the series starter, Gabby Mastreoni was left behind in New York and Brie Masters started life over in California. She knew this was what was best, that this was ultimately what would allow her to heal. But the past has a way of catching up with you and when those who are dearest to her are threatened, Brie realizes she needs to go back to being Gabby and to seek help from the one person she wishes she never had to cross paths with again: Cross Scutari. When all is said and done, what will be left of them both?

Now this, THIS was what I had been hoping for in that first book! The intrigue and tension and just the feeling of anticipation as I went from one page to the next were all ever-present here, alongside the romance that I thought was lacking in book one. Amber Kelly had promise in Both of Me but the result fell just short; with Both of Us, it was as if that promise was finally met and readers like me are reaping the rewards. Gabby and Cross were stubborn but there was no denying how tied to one another they were. The romance and suspense were balanced well, and Kelly's writing was spot-on. No spoilers, folks; but please read the duet in order. Five stars for Both of Us. ♥
