Review: Sweet Fate by Laurelin Paige (Dirty Sweet #2)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Candi Kane PR.

All part of her Dirty book universe, Laurelin Paige has just wrapped up the story of Dylan Locke and Audrey Lind, the fourth among five co-owners of Reach Inc. and a graduate student and almost two decades younger, respectively, with Sweet Fate, the conclusion to the Dirty Sweet duet, which is preceded by the Dirty duet (Donovan Kincaid and Sabrina Lind), the Dirty Games duet (Weston King and Elizabeth Dyson), and Dirty Filthy Fix (Nathan Sinclair and Patricia Bisceglia--this is also a Fixed and Dirty crossover novella). This takes place a few months after the events in book one, Sweet Liar. When Dylan sees Audrey once again, it proves that he isn't over the young woman who turned his world on its head. She's still as beautiful and bubbly as ever, but she's also still much younger than him and in search of a happily-ever-after with a home to share with "the One" and several children. Being across the pond lessens the temptation, but when Audrey arrives in London for a paid internship, Dylan knows he's going to have to strengthen his resolve and resist her, no matter how much he'd like to give in...

A good portion of this book did what the first one didn't: it allowed Dylan and Audrey to get to know each other better. The attraction between them still exists and there was a whole lot of flirting going on between them before, but in London, they decide to put each other in the friend zone, and it turns out to be the perfect way to lay a stronger foundation for whatever may develop later on. It was interesting to see Dylan constantly trying to stop himself from following his instincts--and his heart--and instead encouraging Audrey to date while in London. I do confess, however, that I got frustrated after a while because of Dylan's reticence. I mean, come on, man! Buck up and open your eyes! Gah! But the last twenty-five percent of the book absolutely had me squeeing in delight because it really was that perfect blend of dirty AND sweet, which was exactly what Audrey and Dylan were. Sweet Fate gets 4.5 stars, and the Dirty Sweet duet was a great addition to the overall Dirty universe. The fifth and final addition to Dirty--Cade Warren in the Dirty Wild trilogy--is slated for release in 2020, so let the waiting commence. ♥
