Review: Tricked by Rebecca Zanetti (Dark Protectors - Reese Family #2)
Note: This ARC was provided the publisher via InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review.
Tricked is the newest novella in bestselling author Rebecca Zanetti's paranormal romance series, Dark Protectors, which happens to be one of my all-time favorites. Here we have the story of vampire Jared Reese and police psychologist Veronica Alexander, who were both introduced in the previous novella, Teased, which was about Chalton Reese and Olivia Roberts, Jared's brother and Ronni's best friend, respectively. It was in that same novella where Ronni was poisoned and the only way to save her from certain death was to make her immortal, which is where Jared steps in. Will a more than 400-year-old vampire and a modern woman ever find any common ground?
Ronni Alexander knows that the only option she has left, if she intends to go on living, is to take Jared Reese up on his offer. But mating would mean they would be tied to one another for all eternity, unless one of them partakes of the option that could terminate that bond. This may not be a love match, but they both get something out of it: Ronni her life and Jared a way to maintain some link to his brothers and for his family to stop harassing him about finding a mate. He's bossy and demanding and she's independent and hard-headed, but their connection strengthens. But what happens when the witch Jared once loved returns and all threats to Ronni's life turn violent?
Ooh! I loved Ronni and Jared! These two were such an intense couple from the moment they mated. Ronni was no pushover and she wasn't going to roll over easily simply because her mate ordered her to do something. On the other hand, Jared was used to being the protector, someone who was always prepared to swoop in and rescue the damsel in distress--in his case, it was the witch he loved as a young vampire--but is no realizing that a woman who is able to fend for herself and doesn't hesitate to protect him could be exactly what he needs now that he's a couple of centuries older. Tricked was a five-star read, and I can't wait to read the next novella next year, Tangled. ♥
