Review: See Through Heart by Amie Knight

Amie Knight is a new author and her debut elease is a highly emotional, second chance romance entitled See Through Romance. Ainsley James was eight when she first met her new neighbor, Adrian Davis, but it was the beginning of one of the most relationships she would ever have in her life. The closeness that she and her cousin Loralie couldn't compete with even that between her and her best friend, Miranda Jacobs. Now, however, that closeness included Adrian, the boy they both adored. But as much as Adrian cared for and was protective of Lori, it was Ainsley who had a firm hold of his heart. Ainsley and Adrian falling in love was inevitable, but the night which should have been memorable because of what they had shared together became one marked by tragedy when the unthinkable happened to Lori. Blaming herself for what happened, Ainsley did the one thing she had to--run and turn her back on her mother, her best friend, and the boy she loved. It takes a worrisome health diagnosis for her to return home, but how does she face the people she abandoned, and is there one more shot for her and Adrian?

This book satisfied the angst addict in me. The first part tells readers the story of how Adrian become a part of Ainsley's life, but it does end on a heartrending note before Ainsley makes her return, and this time around, it's her that's trying to become a part of Adrian's life. I really liked how everything played out before Lori passed away. The love between Ainsley and Adrian was innocent and filled with such hope and it was clear just how important Lori was in both of their lives. I totally understood why she felt the need to leave, to distance herself from everyone who was not just part of her life, but also reminded her of Lori and what she believed was her failure to protect the cousin she loved. Here's the thing though--what came off as her selfless love for Lori felt really selfish later on. She thought of herself and how Lori's death impacted her, failing to take into consideration that she wasn't the only one who had a loss to deal with. Sigh. I kind of wished Adrian and Miranda had gotten together instead, but Ainsley did manage to redeem herself. Miranda'll have to wait for her own HEA. Four stars for See Through Heart. ♥
