Review: Resisting the Moon by L.P. Dover (Royal Shifters #2)

Resisting the Moon is the second novel in the Royal Shifters paranormal romance series from bestselling author L.P. Dover. I have yet to read the first in the series, Turn of the Moon, which is now on my to-be-read list after reading a bit about Bailey Whitehill and Ryker Whitemore, so I went into book two completely clueless as far as the series goes. Fortunately, Resisting the Moon can totally be read as a standalone and it was quite an enjoyable read, filled with sexual tension between Tyla Rand and Sebastian Lyall and a fair amount of action and suspense. The story is fast-paced and there's a bit of mystery that goes on with as far as a missing cousin of Tyla's is concerned. There was certainly a surprise or two as the story went along, and I like when an author is able to keep their readers on their toes with each new novel.

I first came across Tyla Rand while reading Roped In, the second book in the Armed & Dangerous series, and now I finally understand why she was the why she was then. She's lost a lot in her lifetime and while she knows that Sebastian is her mate, she can't afford to run the risk of mating him only to lose him like she did everyone else before him. She's independent and every bit the female alpha that she is, and I like how she's able to still be the good daughter to her parents and the passionate woman that she is when she's around Sebastian. You feel for her, because once you learn why she's so resistant to Sebastian, you empathize with her and can understand why it was so difficult for her to actually pursue mating with him. Of course, you can't help but feel bad for Sebastian too because he's not entirely sure why she loathes him.

I may have yet to read Turn of the Moon, but I'm already curious about some of the supporting characters in the series and am hoping that we'll be able to get to know them even better as the series goes, namely, Finn Olcan and Laila Connery, though not necessarily together. L.P. Dover has brought to life a story that tickles one's imagination while being surrounded by familiar settings. My previous reading experience as far as the author concerned is her Armed & Dangerous series, and while that was more contemporary romance compared to the paranormal romance found in Royal Shifters, they both have that element of suspense that she seems to do really well. If you're looking for a well-written story in the paranormal romance genre, you won't go wrong with Resisting the Moon, and this second in a series receives 4.5 stars. ♥
