Review: Keep Me, Cowboy by Nicole Helm (2015 Montana Born Rodeo #3)

Cole McArthur may have broken her heart when he left a decade ago without as much as a goodbye, but Jess Clark needs to track him down and make sure he returns home to Marietta, Montana. With his father's multiple sclerosis diagnosis, Cole needs to take the first step in reconciling with his estranged family, but Jess knows that's easier said than done. There's a reason why Cole left ten years ago, and he's created a completely separate life for himself, away from the father that only saw him as a disappointment. He's more than aware he broke Jess's heart when he left, but what she doesn't know is that he broke his own heart as well, doing what was needed in order for her to have her dream of a family.

Keep Me, Cowboy by Nicole Helm is the third novella in the multi-authored 2015 Montana Born Rodeo series and is a second chance romance between Cole McArthur, a rodeo cowboy, and Jess Clark, a nurse. They fell in love ten years ago but Cole's decision to leave Marietta led to a lot of hurt and unanswered questions on Jess's part. When the reason for his departure is brought to light, the first thought in my head was how much time these two people lost because of one person's manipulations, even though it's revealed that the maneuvering was done with the best of intentions. Their respective lives may have moved forward, but it's clear they were stuck as far as being with a potential love interest was concerned.

The McArthur family dynamic had me quite curious and I wonder if there's a potential spin-off series or possibly novellas in other series that will be about Lina McArthur and Carter McArthur and his wife Sierra Shuller, whose wedding was a side story in Nicole Helm's Bride by Mistake, the third novella in the Montana Born Brides, because of their unresolved issues. There's also Jess's search for her brother Dean which appears to have been going on for more than a decade. Even with the other things still left hanging, I did like how Cole and Jess's love story was wrapped up because it was about forgiveness and redemption and felt hopeful. Keep Me, Cowboy is a story of second chances in love and life and receives four stars. ♥
