Review: Choose Me, Cowboy by Barbara Ankrum (2015 Montana Born Rodeo #4)
Note: This ARC was provided by Tule Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
It's been six years since Kate Canaday and Finn Scott abruptly ended their engagement after the woman Finn had a drunken one-night stand with showed up pregnant. Now, kindergarten teacher Kate is shocked to discover that former bull-riding champion Finn is now living in her hometown of Marietta, Montana with his five-year-old twins, Caylee and Cutter, who just happen to go to the same school Kate is teaching at. Finn's been divorced for four years, not that it matters to Kate who proclaims that she isn't interested in rekindling their love story and prefers being the single serial dater that she's become. But when she learns that Finn's ex, and the woman who cost Kate and Finn their relationship, is trying to gain custody of the twins, Kate steps in and offers her former fiancé her assistance--by agreeing to be his temporary wife.
Written by Barbara Ankrum, Choose Me, Cowboy is the fourth and final novella in the multi-authored 2015 Montana Born Rodeo series from Tule Publishing. This is a second chance romance between kindergarten teacher Kate Canaday and former bull rider and now ranch owner Finn Scott, whose relationship ended when with the pregnancy of a one-night stand. While Finn wouldn't change the fact that his mistake gave him his twins, Caylee and Cutter, he does regret the hurt he caused Kate. His feelings for her appear to still be very much present, but Kate refuses to have anything to do with him, until Finn's ex-wife and the mother of his twins makes a reappearance and threatens to destroy the life Finn's created for himself and his family. There's self-denial on Kate's part but she still loves Finn and cares about his kids.
When it comes to two people getting married for the sake of a particular cause, you're pretty sure how things are going to end up, especially when the marriage is between two people who were once engaged and saw their futures with one another. The connection between Finn and Kate is as strong as ever, but Kate's need for self-preservation is perfectly understandable because who the heck wouldn't be wary about putting their heart at risk yet again with the very same man who broke it years ago? I did like the family camaraderie that Finn and Kate had going with Caylee and Cutter and my favorite scene had to be the one involving the grand gesture, which I will not go into except to say that it brought one huge grin on my face when I read all about it. Choose Me, Cowboy was a fine end to this lovely series. It gets 4.5 stars! ♥
