Review: Middle of Knight by Jewel E. Ann (Jack & Jill #2)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

She drew in a shaky breath, bringing her head up to look at him. "I'm so scared."

His brows furrowed. "What are you scared of?"

"That I won't be able to give you everything you want."

"I just what everything you can give me.""What if it's not enough?"

He smiled, bringing her mouth slowly to his. "It already is."

Jackson and Jillian Knight may be twins who are living lives that they're making up as they go along and share certain similar quirks and traits, but there are also things that set them apart from each other. Jillian has loved once before, and when she had to leave behind Dr. Luke Jones, she never thought she'd love again...until she meets the exasperatingly frustrating Aric James Monaghan. Luke loved and accepted her for who and what she was as Jessica Day, and while she's unable to divulge her secrets to AJ, he loves and accepts her as Jillian Knight. And just when she thought she was truly ready to move forward and let go of Jessica Day and fully embrace life as Jillian Knight, fate and her past catch up to wreak inescapable havoc.

On the other hand, Jackson's old life was about hopping from one bed to another, never finding any woman that warranted anything more than a sating of mutual sexual needs...then his sister employs a house cleaner named Ryn Middleton, a single mother and divorcée ten years Jackson's senior. Filled with insecurities and still dealing with the emotional scars left behind by her abusive ex-husband, Jackson wants to show Ryn that she's every bit the goddess he can't stay away from. Jackson's attention is also on his twin sister and helping her deal with her struggles adjusting to the changes in her life. But when he begins to suspect someone is digging into their lives, the only option left is to protect the women he loves.

I thought I was going to have to wait 'til December to get back to the wonder twins that are Jackson and Jillian Knight, but nope! The wondrous Jewel E. Ann has taken pity on those of us who were sucked in to all things Day and Knight, also known as the Jack & Jill series, and is releasing the sequel to End of Day two months early. So, does Middle of Knight give us the answers we've so desperately been wanting? Yes, indeed...BUT this second book also leaves us with a new set of questions to add on to those original ones that are still waiting to be answered. Is there yet another evil cliffhanger? Yup, and it's as evil as ever, leaving me hoping that the author will take pity and give us Dawn of Forever for Christmas. Hint, hint. ^.^

While I did give you a few hints as to what book two's about, I'm going to have to back off yet again and not give much else because this series demands that you immerse yourself in this off-beat yet twisted but witty story of two siblings who could be labeled with a lot of different terms but are so uniquely set apart from any other set of twins that you may have come across in your book adventures. We do have more of Jackson here, which I was quite thrilled about because it simply wouldn't be fair to have Jillian get her heart stolen by someone. As expected, there's a lot more going on with Jackson that meets the eye and while we were able to glimpse Jillian as Jessica in these two books, Jackson's past as Jude is still a mystery.

Now, I may not be giving any further details story-wise, but may I say that my heart broke more than once for Jillian in this book. There are revelations that I did not expect but somehow shed more light on her behavior. I'll admit that I was Team Luke in the first book, but there's a lot that goes on with AJ that has me tempted to dip my toe into Team AJ, though I'm still going to remain loyal to Luke (and Jones). That ending though...I was left teary-eyed and leaving me hanging like that should be deemed cruel and inhumane. Alas, I must now bide my time until Dawn of Forever is released next year. You, however, should go read the five-plus-starred Middle of Knight, but make sure you're done with End of Day first. ♥
