Soldier Rory McRoy and acro-balance dancer Neve Jaimes got to fulfill their fantasies when they met a few months ago during Rory's leave. After months of exchanging letters, meeting face to face was something they both looked forward to. But that night was marred by miscommunication and false assumptions and it took four months of separation and Rory's return from deployment before everything could be cleared up. With Neve needing help after suffering an infection after a bone marrow procedure, she agrees to have Rory stay by her side but only because he said he would leave before she had to attend an important audition. With all the time they spend together, it becomes increasingly clear to Rory that he wants to be what Neve needs, but will he be able to convince her that what they have is more than fleeting?
All I Need Is You is the second novel in the Loving You series from author Wendy S. Marcus and turns the spotlight on Boston native Rory McRoy and New Yorker Neve Jaimes, friends of Shane Develen and Brooke Ellstein from the first novel, Loving You is Easy. It was clear in book one that something had happened between Rory and Neve, who also happened to be pen-pals just like Shane and Brooke. There's a bit of confusion as to Rory's relationship status when he and Neve first get together but the need to clarify things leads Rory to seek her out four months later and is there to help her out with her medical needs. Rory suffers from PTSD and has yet to deal with it, while Neve has issues with her feelings of abandonment after her birth mother left her in the care of her adoptive parents and older brother Nate.
Neve has somewhat of a reputation as being a loose woman or someone who sleeps around and makes no apologies for it. Her reasoning irked me at times, believing that her sleeping with a particular guy was out of pity or sympathy and that it was a good deed. I don't think she was actively looking for companionship or affection, but it becomes clear that her lack of commitment to any one relationship was due to her own past as a baby given up by her birth mother. Rory was a good guy but I was a tad irritated with him when he jumped to a particular conclusion at one point in the story. He and Neve seemed like a couple who were able to have fun but it took me a while to believe they were really in love. I did like the overall story and am curious about Neve's brother and if he'll get his own story in the future. All I Need Is You gets four stars. ♥
