Review: Gold Mine by Skye Warren (Diamond #2)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Give Me Books Promotions.

Oh. My. GAHD!!! I'm at a loss for words right now, and not just because of that cliffhanger ending. I've been eagerly awaiting the release of Gold Mine, the second book in Skye Warren's Diamond series, ever since I finished Diamond in the Rough two months ago. Now, I know that two months isn't all that long especially when it comes to a series, but if you're familiar with Warren's stories, then you know that even a day would feel like forever. Yep, her stuff is just that good, leaving readers like me filled with anticipation to know what happens next and desperation to get our greedy hands on all those answers. And now that I'm done reading that much awaited sequel? Obviously, I need the conclusion because...GAHD! It's another two-month wait, and I'm really 100% impatient!

A quick heads-up: This is a continuing series, so that means the books MUST be read in order. You cannot just jump into this book without having read the one before it because it won't make as much sense nor will you have the level of appreciation necessary. So, if you haven't read Diamond in the Rough, you may want to stop here because I may inadvertently mention something in this review that could truly prove to be spoiler-like.

Holland Frank is on the run, and trying to stay a step or ten ahead of those who are pursuing her and her older sister, London, may prove to be an exercise in futility. After all, their pursuers are far more adept and trained in this sort of thing, and that includes Elijah North. He was the boy she fell for at sixteen, and he was the man who confounded her eight years later. He swears to protect her, but can she trust him? Is her only alternative trusting someone like Adam Bisset? She's torn between the two, and when the dust settles, will there be anything left of her heart and her trust if Holly chooses wrong?

I swear, every single time I read something in this book universe, I feel drained. Like I need to step back and take a break from reading or else all other books will pale in comparison. This second book is like being on a roller coaster ride that's got twists and turns and loop-de-loops galore that leaves you dangling upside-down in the end because, hello, evil cliffhanger! Holly and Elijah and the choices they make will have you wanting to cheer them on one second and then wanting to shake some sense in them. I knew going in there was going to be a third book, but even expecting a cliffhanger had me wanting to fling my tablet to the ground in frustration. But that's par for the course when it comes to Skye Warren's books. The wait will be so worth it. Five stars go to Gold Mine.
