Review: Pride & Joie by M.E. Carter (#MyNewLife #3)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via Give Me Books Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

Originally released in three separate novellas, Pride & Joie is the third installment in M.E. Carter's #MyNewLife series but can easily be appreciated as a standalone. If you've read the other books in the series, then forty-two-year-old single mother Joie Stevens should be a familiar character, her being the older sister to Greg Brady in Getting a Grip and Balance Check. Obviously, she's the "Joie" in the title; the "Pride" is Jack Pride, a widower and the fortysomething assistant coach to the Flinton State Vikings, the football team belonging to Texas's Flinton State University--the same football team that Joie's twenty-year-old son Isaac plays for and the reason why he's got a scholarship. When Jack and Joie literally bump into one another on campus, it sparks the beginning of something neither one of them ever expected to find. But no one ever said the journey to love and happiness would be easy.

As was the case with the first two novels in the #MyNewLife series, I loved how M.E. Carter made this story feel so real, to the point that I could imagine it all happening in real life. Empathizing with both Joie and Jack wasn't a hardship at all. Did I forget to mention that I love, love, LOVE that the main characters are in their forties? I'm just a year older than Joie was in this story, so there were certain aspects of her life I recognized. However, that doesn't mean that she's the sort of heroine that only someone in my age group could appreciate. What's great about Joie is that there are bits and pieces about her that others will be able to see in themselves as well. Joie and Jack's love story has its ups and downs and you're going to want to be right there with them for the entire ride. Theirs is a reminder that life and love isn't always perfect, but it can be quite rewarding indeed. Five stars go to Pride & Joie. ♥
