Review: Wilde for Her by Tonya Burrows (Wilde Security #2)

Camden Wilde and Eva Cardoso used to be partners in the homicide division of the Metropolitan Police Department, but they've remained the best of friends even after Cam joined his brothers to form Wilde Security. Cam's there for Eva every time she calls on him, but he wants her to see him as more than just her friend and after five years of being secretly in love with her, it's time he does something about it. But Eva's afraid to lose the friendship she has with Cam and she's doesn't believe he can give her the kind of life that she wants. When Cam's life is put under threat, will Eva come to her senses before she loses him?

Wilde for Her is the second book in the Tonya Burrows-penned Wilde Security series and turns the spotlight on one of the twins, Camden Wilde, and his best friend and former partner in the police force, Eva Cardoso. Theirs is a friends-to-lovers love story, with Cam being the one who falls for Eva before she can even begin to decipher her feelings for him. There's no question that she's been lusting over her best friend but Cam's feelings are deeper and have been that way for half a decade. Everyone else seems to see how he really feels about her but Eva is oblivious and sees him as the best friend she calls on for support.

Okay, I'm going to admit it. I didn't really like Eva all that much, and I think a lot of it has to do with her handling of what was happening between her and Cam. She came off as a bit of a user, relying on Cam to be there for her when she needed him and even being open to only having a physical relationship with him that she would be ready to let go of once some other guy came along. It was as if she didn't think he was good enough or that he didn't meet whatever silly standards she set up for the guy that she was going to marry someday. I couldn't help but feel bad for Cam. I loved how protective his twin, Vaughn, was of him.

While I wasn't a fan of Eva's, I did like the mystery aspect of the story, though it did kind of remind me a bit of how the first book, Wilde Nights in Paradise, turned out. More than the love story, it's the relationship the brothers have with one another that fascinates me. As close as they are, there are certain things about each other that appear to be kept under wraps and with two brothers down, I'm more than interested to find out what secrets the three other brothers have to tell. But as far as Wilde for Her is concerned, it was an overall good read--a lot of that having to do with Cam Wilde--and it gets four stars. ♥
