Review: High Heat by Linda Morris (Hard Hitters #1)

Sarah Dudley would like to believe that she's over the teenage crush she had on Tom Cord, but now that the famous baseball player is temporarily with the Plainview Thrashers as part of his rehab assignment before he's called back to the majors by the Chicago White Sox, Sarah's finding it difficult to keep deflecting the interest he keeps pitching her way. The last thing she needs is to be distracted as the team's VP for Public Relations, but being around Tom makes her feel like a woman and someone worthy of something more, professionally and personally. The question is: Can Tom give her that something more?

High Heat is the first book in the Hard Hitters series from author Linda Morris. This story about a major league baseball pitcher and a minor league PR head falling for one another was cute. Sarah Dudley has a crush on Tom Cord when she was still a teenage tomboy and he was her older brother's college buddy and fellow college baseball teammate. When their paths cross again, Sarah's no longer the scrawny, athletic kid she once was but her love for the sport of baseball is just as strong as Tom's. His reputation as a playboy makes him newsworthy but their affair is something that needs to be kept under wraps due to her father.

Sarah was independent and smart, but she allowed herself to be treated as if she was less than what she was worth simply because she was a female. Her father was a jackass, but I did like her older brother Paul and his being a supportive, protective sibling. I liked her with Tom, though their story did some to jump from one point to another at times, making it a bit lacking in terms of having that true and passionate emotional connection. Still, it was obvious that they wanted what was best for one another, even though telling each other the truth may cause friction. Overall, High Heat was pretty good and it gets 3.5 stars. ♥
