Review: Can't Resist Him by Molly McLain (River Bend #4)

Note: This ARC was provided by Victory Editing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Being a Marine is what gives Corporal Brody James Nelson purposes, but the death of two of his friends and fellow Marines has left him with a feeling of guilt that only makes his post-traumatic stress disorder more difficult to deal with. His superiors refuse to allow him to re-deploy until he gets the help he needs, something that he's hesitant to do. Then he meets one special woman in Las Vegas who sees him for who he is and seems to accept him, scars--both those she can and can't see--and all and is ready to fight for him.

Jennifer Lynn Riley is used to being the girl that's good enough to sleep with, but not nearly good enough to commit to. She loves her life in River Bend but finding a man who will love her and whom she can love in return is becoming increasingly difficult. But when she meets a Marine reservist who tells it like it is on New Year's Eve in Vegas, she realizes it's the beginning of a very special and unique friendship. Can two people who claim to not want to be in a relationship be able to resist how perfect they are for each other?

Can't Resist Him is the fourth book in the River Bend series from bestselling author Molly McLain and is, hands down, my favorite one in the series so far. It is difficult, indeed, to resist Brody Nelson and Jenny Riley, two people who are saddled with their own issues but discover a kinship unlike any other with one another. There's no doubting the attraction, but it goes deeper than the physical, with both of them keeping an open mind and heart and maintaining a level of honesty and respect--each a precursor to love.

I loved the playfulness that these two shared in their relationship, but there was also this intimacy that they never had with the people they were with in the past. Jenny was exactly what Brody needed to help him focus his energies on becoming someone who dealt with his PTSD so that he could be the person who deserved to be with someone like her. I liked how they were with each other's families and friends and how they simply clicked from the beginning. They made me smile and giggle and sigh and tear up a time or two.

The cast of characters does include familiar couples and faces, so while this can be read as a standalone, I'm recommending you read the series from the first book to this latest installment. Each one is a worthwhile read and reading the stories and getting to know the folks from River Bend is a great way for you to spend a weekend. I meant what I said two paragraphs ago--this is my favorite story and Brody and Jenny are now my favorite River Bend couple. I'm highly recommending Can't Resist Him and give it stars. ♥
