Review: Head Over Heels for the Boss by Susan Meier (Donovan Brothers #3)

Note: This ARC was provided by Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

Isabelle Cooper has had a crush on Devon Donovan since she was seventeen but when the then-twenty-seven-year-old returning Marine rejected her invitation to the prom, she believed nothing would ever come of her teenage admiration. Now she's just learned that she's going to have to work side by side with Devon and spending all those hours with the guy you still dream is a true test of self-control. The attraction, however, seems to be mutual this time around, and the buttoned-up, all business boss suggests that they indulge in a private affair, one that they need to keep  under wraps so as to avoid getting tongues wagging all over town. But when Izzy's finds herself falling in love, will she still hold out for hope for something more from Devon, the very man who has told her repeatedly that he doesn't do relationships?

Head Over Heels for the Boss is the third novel in the Donovan Brothers series from author Susan Meier and now gives readers the story of the eldest Donovan son, Devon, a man who takes on the responsibilities of taking care of and protecting his mother and two younger brothers seriously, and Izzy Cooper, a former tomboy who has grown up to be an intelligent, beautiful, and confident young woman. Much to Devon's surprise, Izzy proves to be his equal and he wants to be with her, but he makes it clear that they can't have anything more than a temporary affair. Of course, feelings complicate even the best laid plans and when one of them wants more and the other remains firm on what was previously agreed on, hearts are destined to be broken. There's a fair bit of meddling, but what else do you expect from the town of Harmony Hills?

I liked that Izzy was a woman who went after what she wanted and was strong and stubborn enough to not allow herself to give in for something less. She's funny and has a love for family and community. She's very responsible and rarely says no to those who need her help, which makes her similar to Devon. His family has always come first and when each of his brothers find the women they want to share their lives with and then soon his mom does the same, he feels lost. Izzy and Devon were meant to be together, even though there was a time or two that Devon was blinded by his own stubbornness. I thought he would be partnered with Barbara Beth, but obviously I was mistaken. Her story looks to be up next and with an interesting twist to it, based on the epilogue and will be on my TBR list. Head Over Heels for the Boss gets 4.5 stars. ♥
