Review: Wilde at Heart by Tonya Burrows (Wilde Security #3)
Note: This ARC was provided by Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review.
Reece Wilde knows better than to become involved with his brother's sister-in-law, but there's something about Shelby Bremer that has him coming back for more. When a video of them engaging in an extra-curricular activity that would have Reece's brothers raising their eyebrows in surprise becomes the starting point of blackmail threats thrown Reece's way, he and Shelby end up getting married in order to lessen the impact on Reece's reputation. But Shelby has her own reasons for wanting to get hitched to Reece, even if they both know that it's merely a business transaction, and once her secrets are revealed, will Shelby be able to convince Reece that her feelings for him have always been true even amidst the lies?
Wilde at Heart is the third book in the romantic suspense series Wilde Security from author Tonya Burrows and is about the second oldest Wilde brother and the company's intelligence expert, Reece Wilde, who ends up doing things he's never done until his life becomes entangled with Shelby Bremer, barista and the younger sister of Camden Wilde's wife Eva. Reece is as straight-laced as it gets while Shelby has a wild streak that she doesn't appear ready to be rid of. They're very different people and they end up bringing a new side to each other when they begin to engage in a relationship. The decision to marry was supposed to be a business and security matter but we all know how those can tend to work out.
Okay, here I go again. I wasn't a fan of Shelby's. She was all over the place and she came off as naive and willing to believe and accept almost everything that's thrown her way, hook, line, and sinker. Hoping for the best when it came to her mom made her appear foolhardy, especially with a track record like her mother's. I mean, come on, she nearly spoiled her own sister's wedding by inviting their mother to it. And then there was the whole information gathering thing that I found strange. The clincher was that I didn't really feel any chemistry between her and Reece and while the whole opposites attract thing can come off as cute and endearing, here it didn't work and I couldn't help but feel that they were better off separated.
I actually found myself paying more attention to what was happening with two of Reece's brothers, Vaughn and Greer. Vaughn's search for the missing Lark Warren and the information he's gathered since her disappearance is setting me up with high expectations because there are answers I want and they can't come soon enough. Then there's Greer's situation, which has more than piqued my curiosity, and I wonder if we'll finally find out who killed the Wilde brothers's parents all those years ago, because it is, after all, the one lingering mystery that runs throughout the entire series. Wilde at Heart may not be my favorite but I will give it credit for having two interesting mysteries involving the blackmail and the fires. 3.5 stars! ♥
