Review: Wilde Nights in Paradise by Tonya Burrows (Wilde Security #1)

The last time Jude Wilde saw Elizabeth Pruitt, she dumped the engagement ring he had given her a few days prior after she catches him with another woman. Eight years later, the former Marine is tasked by his former commanding officer, who just happens to be Libby's father, to provide her with the protection she needs while pretending to be her boyfriend. It's clear that Jude is the last person she wants as her bodyguard but her job as an assistant district attorney could be the source of threats that she's received. When they decide to hide out in Key West, Florida, the chemistry that was there before comes roaring back to life. Can Jude prove he's worthy of another chance while trying to keep the woman he loves safe?

Wilde Nights in Paradise is the first book from author Tonya Burrows in the Wilde Security series, which is about five brothers--Greer, Reece, Vaughn, Camden, and Jude--and the private security agency that bears their family name. The series starts with the youngest of the brood, Jude, who is a former Marine and is considered somewhat of a screw-up by his older brothers. Assigned as the bodyguard of his ex-girlfriend is difficult enough, especially with how their relationship ended, but add to that the sexual tension and unresolved feelings between Jude Wilde and Libby Pruitt and spending a few days and nights together in Florida could spell trouble for both. Oh, and let's not forget the escalating threats against her.

Ah, Jude... There's just something about him that's irresistible. He appears to be a bad boy who sleeps around and who's thought of as the one brother who needs to get himself in order (though that's something all five of the guys actually need to do), but there's so much more behind the persona he presents to everyone around. He's also saddled with a lot of guilt, whether in relation to what happened to his parents or what his best friend and fellow Marine Seth Harlan went through. When you strip away all the layers, Jude's a really good guy who would do anything for those closest to him, and that includes tha only girl he's ever loved. The twist in their love story was a surprise, proving he really is a really good guy.

One of the most difficult things to overcome in any sort of second chance romance is gaining the other person's trust back. Falling back in love with someone is actually far easier than having them even consider taking the risk of entrusting an ex with the very thing they broke. In Jude and Libby's case, Libby sees how Jude has changed and matured over the years and she gets more than a glimpse of the man he really is and not the man he pretends to be. Aside from their love story, I also enjoyed the dynamics among the five brothers and it looks like each one is going to have one heck of an interesting love story to tell when they get their turns. Wilde Nights in Paradise was a really exciting start to the Wilde Security series. 4.5 stars! ♥
