Review: Do You Dare? by Lylah James (Truth and Dare #1)

Did I dare read my first-ever book penned by Lylah James? Okay, it wasn't as if it was some terrifying dare, but James was a new-to-me author and my decision to read Do You Dare?, the first in her Truth and Dare duet, was based mostly on the positive reviews I perused on her previous releases. Yes, the blurb intrigued me, but I'm one of those people who likes to poke around Goodreads to see what other readers and bloggers have to say about an author's work (unless they're a debut author, of course). Well, I'm glad I took the plunge because this was a pretty good read, and one that has me curious as to what may await the main characters when the conclusion is released.

Do You Dare? is the story of Lila Garcia and Maddox Coulter, former enemies who became the best of friends. They pushed and prodded and teased and tormented each other endlessly, but it was their dares that could probably be considered legendary. Neither one could ever says because neither would dare admit they couldn't do something. There is no such thing as boundaries when it comes to those dares...but Maddox's latest one could lead them into territory where there may be no coming back, and when all is said and done, what will be left of Maddox and Lila?

You would think someone as impatient as me wouldn't bother with slow burn romances, but funnily enough, I quite like them when done really well. Here, it was a wee bit slower than I would have preferred, and I confess that my frustration level is low to begin with. However, Lylah James's writing made me persevere, and I'm definitely curious to see how everything will turn out for Lila and Maddox in their final book. Do You Dare? garners 3.5 stars. ♥
