Review: From Our First by Carrie Ann Ryan (Promise Me #4)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Give Me Books Promotions.

Carrie Ann Ryan wraps up her Promise Me series with the fourth and final novel, and she's definitely ending things on a high. After that shocker of ending in the third book, Far From Destined, Nathan Brady and Myra West's story jumped to the top of my to-be-read list. From Our First is a tale of first love, heartbreak, and learning to move forward. There's angst and quite a bit of it, but ultimately, theirs is a story of life's second chances.

With Myra's friends finding love with Nate's brothers, get-togethers grow increasingly common for all eight of them. At first glance, it just seems like Myra and Nate can't stand each other, but these two are keeping a secret from everyone they care about. You see, years ago, they met, fell in love, and got married. They learned pretty quickly that a happily-ever-after wasn't in the cards for them. But what if an opportunity to get it right comes along? Will they take a shot, make amends, and move forward...with each other?

This is another one of those bittersweet moments--when a series I've grown attached to comes to an end. I've loved getting to know the Brady brothers and the women they fall in love with. Nate and Myra's story highlights that finding love doesn't always guarantee that you'll stay together forever, but it also reminds us that when fate offers up a chance to rekindle true love, you take it. Like the three books before it, there's a hint of suspense here, and it played well with the romance. The journey to rediscovering each other and fighting for their love wasn't easy but it was worthwhile. From Our First snags five stars.
