I confess that I'm a bit of a Dahlia Donovan fan. Okay, okay, it's not just "a bit"! I adore this author's writing, whether it be her heavier, more angsty romances or her lighter, highly addictive cozy mysteries. Her latest book is actually the first in her brand-new London Podcast Mystery series, and Cosplay Killer has me giddy with anticipation as to what awaits readers like me as the series moves forward. After all, if the rest of the books are as good as this one, then I see some fun-filled reading from Donovan in my future (again).

Cosplay Killer introduces readers to Osian Garey and Dannel Ortea, thirty-year-olds who have known each other since they infants and have been boyfriends since they were teenagers. Ossie is a former paramedic who decided to leave a job he loved after a multi-vehicle accident led to a couple and him feeling like he failed his patient. Danny is a firefighter who was diagnosed with autism as a child and is feeling a great deal of stress from his job. The two share a love for cosplay and true crime, and it's at a comic convention they're at when a crime happens--one of their closest friends is murdered, and it looks like the police have set their sights on the person who found the body--Osian.

One of my favorite things about Dahlia Donovan's books is that her characters always have such depth to them. She doesn't skimp on their personal histories nor does she skim over details about how they live their lives. Osian and Dannel already have an established relationship when we meet them, but Donovan invites readers into their home and everyday routines, and it's clear that the bond they have is a strong one. I loved seeing how their relationship worked and how they were, not just with each other, but also with their families and friends. As for the mystery part, I thought I'd figured out who the villain was, and I did...but there was a bit of a twist! Naturally, I appreciated that because I'm all for an author keeping on my toes. I'm going to need the next book really soon because I can't get enough of this fab cast of characters. 4.5 stars go to Cosplay Killer.
