Review: Powerful by Kathleen Kelly (Driven World)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Grey's Promotions.

Powerful is my latest read in the multi-authored Driven World collection, and it also happens to be my introduction to the writing of Kathleen Kelly. This was a second-chance romance about former childhood sweethearts who find themselves paired together for an upcoming wedding. It's been seven years since twenty-seven-year-old Kris Livingston left his hometown, the only family he had left, his best friend, and the girl he loved to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. He made it big, and he continues to be one of the most in-demand actors around, but he's taking time out to return to Boothbay Harbor, Maine for his best friend's wedding. Kris is unsure of how he'll handle seeing his father again, but when he sees his ex-girlfriend, twenty-five-year-old Athena Boswell--his best friend's sister--again, there's one thing he's totally sure of: Athena is still the only girl he's ever loved. He's already broken her heart once before; will she risk it happening again?

Powerful is, hands down, one of my favorite reads in the Driven World collection so far. Kathleen Kelly may be a new-to-me author, and while this book may have been my first read from her, it most certainly won't be the last, especially not after that ending. I'll be honest, I wasn't a fan of Kris's for at least a few chapters. I seriously wanted to give the guy a smack upside the head, especially when he was getting all flirty with Athena again. Dude, you ghosted her all those years ago! GAH! And you have a girlfriend now! DOUBLE GAH! But then things started to become clearer, and I had a better understanding of where it was all coming from...except for the ghosting part. There was no justifying that. I liked how the story progressed and developed, and that ending has me anxious to find out what comes next...AND SOON! I need answers, people! I'm giving Powerful five stars.
