Review: Her Guardian Angel by Larissa Ione (Demonica Underworld #6 / Lexi Blake Crossover Collection #2)

Note: This ARC was provided by the publisher via InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review.

Confession time: I've never read anything by Larissa Ione before, although I do have one of her books--Base Instincts from her Demonica series--on my virtual bookshelf. I know her several of her series have received rave reviews, but I haven't ventured into reading any of them because they're ongoing series and there are quite a few that I'll have to get through in order to be up-to-date. That doesn't mean, though, that I had no intention of ever reading her books. I did. Notice the past tense? Because I have finally--FINALLY!--read a Larissa Ione--penned book! Her Guardian Angel is my first Ione read, and it's the sixth in her Demonica Underworld spin-off series and the second in the Lexi Blake Crossover Collection, and I guarantee it most definitely won't be my last.

At seventy-five, Suzanne D'Angelo is considered young for a memitim--an earthbound angel--and she takes her first mission as guardian over her primori, Declan Burke. When the thirty-year-old McKay-Taggart bodyguard is attacked by a demon, Suzanne decides to best course of action would be to hire Declan. That way, she'd be able to keep watch over him twenty-four-seven while making him think she was the one who needed watching. But Declan's good at his job for a reason, and he can't shake the feeling that Suzanne is keeping something from him but neither can he shake his attraction for her. Declan knows becoming involved with his client wouldn't be a good idea and Suzanne knows falling for her human is taboo. Will love find a way to save them?

While it took a while for me to get used to the universe that the author's created, I did enjoy the world-building as well as the story itself. This could have easily been one of those tales of an angel who loses her wings for the human she's in love with, thereby making her a fallen angel because she's fallen for a human, but I loved Ione's original spin and her creativity with all things angel, demon, and human. This being the only book in the Lexi Blake Crossover Collection that's a paranormal romance, I was curious to see how it would work, and strangely enough, it did! The action suspense I expected from Masters & Mercenaries side and the paranormal romance aspect I expected from the Demonica Underworld side merged rather nicely in Her Guardian Angel. Four stars! ♥
