Review: Rescuing Sadie by Susan Stoker (Delta Force Heroes #7.5 / Lexi Blake Crossover Collection #6)

Note: This ARC was provided by the publisher via InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review.

I've missed reading Susan Stoker's Delta Force Heroes series, not having had the opportunity to read the two most recent releases in the series, so when I learned the author was taking part in the Lexi Blake Crossover Collection with a novella in her Delta Force Heroes series, I jumped right on it. Rescuing Sadie is set in both the Stoker-created world of active military men as well as that of Lexi Blake's Masters & Mercenaries series. So, how did the combination of two well-established romantic suspense series fare? Quite nicely based on this entertaining and exciting novella that pits some of the Delta Force guys with a couple of the Taggarts from McKay-Taggart against a persistent madman who's got the McKay-Taggart Group's own Sadie Jennings in his crosshairs. Of course, that stalker never counted on Army Captain Chase Jackson positioning himself as Sadie's own personal bodyguard.

After a harrowing hostage situation in San Antonio, Sadie Jennings is trying to move forward. Unfortunately, one of the men involved is still at large, and Sadie's uncle, who just happens to be Sean Taggart of the McKay-Taggart Group, thinks it best for her to lie low. She finds herself with an unexpected bodyguard in the form of Chase Jackson. He's thought of her as his from the moment he saw her, but his first priority is to ensure her safety and to make sure whatever threat is lying in wait is neutralized as soon as possible. With his friends on the Delta Force team and the top guys at the McKay-Taggart Group ready and able to help out, Chase and Sadie get to spend more and more time together, nurturing a fragile yet flourishing romance in the midst of danger. But when Sadie shares her darkest secret with Chase, the realization of just how obsessed the stalker is could end costing even more lives.

This novella was, hands down, my favorite in the Lexi Blake Crossover Collection. From the story line to the main characters and the rest of the supporting cast, there was barely anything I could find to quibble about. Stoker did a fantastic job having this novella fall into the world she weaved with her Delta Force Heroes series and the one that Lexi Blake created with her Masters & Mercenaries books. I liked having familiar names about, thanks to my having read the first five Delta Force Heroes books and having a basic idea of who Ian and Sean Taggart were. Maybe the one thing that had me hesitating from giving this an even higher rating was the fact that I wished I had read Justice for Milena, which is part of Stoker's Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes series, what with Milena being the friend that Sadie helps out down in San Antonio. Other than that, I'm happily handing five out of five stars to Rescuing Sadie. ♥
