Review: Say You Won't Let Go by Corinne Michaels (Return to Me #3.5 / Lexi Blake Crossover Collection #4)

Note: This ARC was provided by the publisher via InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review.

It's been a while since I last read something by Corinne Michaels, Defenseless, the fifth in her Salvation series, and her three Return to Me novels being the entirety of my reading experience, with both that standalone and the Return to Me series earning spots on my all-time favorites list. The latter, actually, is what's had me anticipating getting my hands on this novella from Michaels, given that it's Cooper Townsend's story, and Cooper just happened to be the one male character in the the aforementioned series that I was hoping would get his own happily-ever-after. Even the girl he would be paired up with was hinted it in the third full-length novel, and it's come to fruition with Say You Won't Let Go, a Return to Me novella, and the fourth addition to the Lexi Blake Crossover Collection.

The story has Cooper Townsend paying a visit to Emily Young, an up and coming country singer who happens to be his sister's best friend and a close friend of the woman he once loved. That visit soon leads to the two of them becoming romantically involved, a development that thrills their friends back home in Tennessee, but angers the secret admirer turned stalker that Emily doesn't mention until everything moves from seemingly innocent to more threatening. A chance meeting with Wade Rycroft, a good friend of Cooper's who also comes from their hometown and a military vet who now works with McKay-Taggart, has Cooper bringing him in as Emmy's bodyguard. Her stalker, however, isn't one to be ignored, and he leaves Emmy with no other option but to do exactly what he says.

Okay, this part is going to pain me more than you can believe because I loved the three Return to Me novels and Cooper has always been a standout character for me whose story I've been itching to read. Maybe my expectations were too high because unfortunately, this novella fell short. I just didn't feel the chemistry between Cooper and Emily until the last quarter of the book and by then, I was thinking that everything went from zero to sixty in terms of their relationship. Then there was Wade who was more of a peripheral character, which kind of made this book less of a Masters & Mercenaries story compared to the five other ones in this crossover collection. His story by Lexi Blake and release in July, but Cooper's story just faltered for me. Sadly, it's just 3.5 stars for Say You Won't Let Go. ♥
