Review: Just One Spark by Jami Wagner (Black Alcove #5)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review.

Just One Spark is the fifth novel in the Jami Wagner-penned Black Alcove new adult series. Beth Moyer hasn't had sex in a year, and with her starting a new job, she needs some relief. She finds it in a one-night stand with a complete stranger. No harm, no foul, and they go their separate ways. She's feeling good and ready to conquer the world and prove just how adept she is at her marketing job...that is, until she sees someone she was never expecting to see again: her one-night stand who also happens to be her co-worker who just happens to be her boss's nephew. And as an added bonus to complete her day? She's competing with him for a permanent position.

Sent to work under his uncle for three months, Maverick Mitchell knows he needs to keep his head down and focus on showing his father that he's more than worthy to be the heir of their family company. No more screw-ups and no more screwing around. One final hook-up shouldn't come back to haunt him, until said hookup turns out to be his co-worker and prime competitor at work. It may be difficult to concentrate at times, but Maverick and Beth do work well together--both inside and outside of the office. But these two had goals in mind even before they knew each other, and if they were forced to choose between work and love, does one win or can they have it all?

The series has bounced back with this latest release.  Like the book before it, the Black Alcove bar doesn't really play as much of a part in the story as compared to the other books, though it's been tapering off since the series starter and the second one was transitioning from one bar to a sister bar. This really was more of an office romance, and both Maverick and Beth had something to prove. They toe the line between professional and personal and striking a balance between the two and choosing between which matters more is what's at the core of this story. I enjoyed the sexy and sweet times between Maverick and Beth and award Just One Spark four stars. ♥
