Review: A Christmas to Fight For by Jessica Frances

Our future might be a grim and impossible one, but the present has never looked so good. If this is all we can have, then I'm not going to squander it. I'm not going to was a single second.

The newly elected Santa, the last of the Krampuses, and the North Pole, oh my! Jessica Frances knocked me for a loop last year with the release of A Christmas to Die For, which was one of my favorite and most original reads for 2020. This year, she seems to have one-upped herself with her new holiday romance, and I for one, am not complaining. A Christmas to Fight For is a standalone, but hey, I certainly won't discourage you from checking out Frances's holiday book from last year because everyone needs to read that fab creative gem. However, one can be read independently of the other.

Caspar is the newest Santa who has no clue just how vile the Santa Claus Organization; and Claw is the lone Krampus left standing after the SCO took out everyone else. Claw is seeking vengeance, but his plans go awry, and he and Caspar become the unlikeliest of allies...and more. I'm going to leave it at that because this book is best devoured as everything plays out. Jessica Frances has once again left me amazed with such an original story. These are not your typical red-suited jolly, full-bellied Santas and red-skinned, horned and tailed demon-like individuals. Instead, what you have here is literary genius in full display, and if you're looking for something extraordinary, I highly recommend A Christmas to Fight For. Five-plus stars.

Review: The Room Mate by Kendall Ryan (Roommates #1)

I do believe I've found myself a new book boyfriend to drool, erm, swoon over in Cannon Roth, male main character in bestselling author Kendall Ryan's Roommates series starter, The Room Mate . This had a familiar romance trope--falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling--and yet I didn't find it boring or tiresome in any way. This has both heart and heat as well as lighthearted humor along with a bit of heart-tugging angst and it's headlined by a couple of main characters that I was totally smitten with from the moment Paige got a pretty good idea of just how much her best friend's younger brother Cannon had grown up from the nerdy boy who followed them around like a puppy when they were kids.
