Review: Until I Fall by Claudia Burgoa

Note: This ARC was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Until I Fall is a new standalone from author Claudia Burgoa, but it's one that I hope will turn out to be a series starter, what with numerous supporting characters that I wouldn't mind getting to know better should a series be in the offing. This was a second chance love story, but not in the usual sense. Female main character Aspen Zimmerman lost the love of her life--the man she was set to marry--and years later, she continues to mourn his death. Now, she's dedicated her life to providing the best possible medical care for her patients, one of whom happens to be her neighbor. When her neighbor's health takes a turn for the worst, Aspen finds herself in closer proximity than she would have anticipated with the woman's son, Anderson Hawkins. He stirs feelings in her that she believed died alongside her fiancé, and Aspen is at a loss as to how to deal with it all. There's no denying that Anderson wants Aspen, and he's open to pursuing the attraction simmering between them. However, there's a part of his life he's keeping secret, one that is all too familiar to Aspen and could put an abrupt end to everything.

Claudia Burgoa never holds back when gives her readers a new story to fall in love with. She gives us the good with the bad, the beautiful with the ugly, but at the end of it all, her stories are about the power of love and how it wins when given a chance. Aspen is a truly strong heroine, someone who was utterly vulnerable when we first meet her, especially as we see her grieve the loss of her fiancĂ©. She becomes more distant when we meet here again, and it's easy to see why. However, her love for those nearest and dearest to her, and the care and concern she gives her patients is proof that there's still a part of the old Aspen there. Now, Anderson, aka Hawk, was quite a fascinating male main character, and how he ties in with the Deckers--the family that Burgoa created over a series of books that I consider personal favorites--had the Decker fangirl in me rather giddy. It's that connection and Hawk's friends--along with Aspen's besties--that have me wondering if this is the beginning of a series. Either way, the author has put together a love story that had heart and other unexpected aspects. Five of five stars for Until I Fall. ♥
