Review: Leap of Faith by Jackie Keswick (FireWorks Security #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Leap of Faith is the first novella in the romantic suspense series entitled FireWorks Security from author Jackie Keswick. This also happens to be my first read from her and I was quite taken by the mystery part of the story, with a good, steady mix of action and suspense to keep things exciting. The romance involves Joel Weston and Kieran Ross, best friends and partners at FireWorks Security, owned by Joel's father. The work they do is dangerous and they've sat at each other's bedsides whenever one of them is injured on the job. What Joel finds more dangerous, however, is admitting his feelings for Kieran, feelings that, unbeknownst to Joel, are returned by his partner. When both men suffer serious injuries on two separate occasions, they become each other's greatest source of support. Now, they need to figure out who's targeting them and whether they can risk their friendship for something more.

The thing I liked most about this book was that it was a fairly quick read at about 115 pages. The thing I disliked most was that it ended in a cliffhanger, but then I dislike cliffhangers in general, so it didn't have anything specifically to do with how the cliffhanger came about or was written. This was a slow burn romance, with two best friends who may have had feelings for one another for quite some time but neither one had really done anything to clue the other in until much later in this series starter. The suspense and action were great, doing what it was meant to do--hook me in and get me all curious as to who the bad guys were and why they were after Joel and Kieran. I want answers! Alas, I'm going to have to wait for the second book, and I'll be keeping an eye out for it because Jackie Keswick has made a good first impression and I want more of the same. Four stars for Leap of Faith. ♥
