Review: Extra Innings by Michelle Lynn (Infield #2)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via Sassy Savvy Fabulous PR in exchange for an honest review.

I've been waiting on this second in a series ever since I finished reading the Infield series starter, Rounding Third, last year! Bestselling author Michelle Lynn brings readers the much awaited story of Braxton Brentwood, best friend to Crosby Lynch and Ella Keaton, whose second chance love story was told in the first book. College junior and team captain and catcher for the Ridgemont Tigers, Brax is used to having girls walk towards and not away from him. When premed junior Ainsley Winslow keeps her word and ends their summer fling without a backward glance, Brax decides he isn't quite done. Unfortunately, Ainsley refuses to reply to his texts and won't answer his calls. He moves on because it's clear that she already has...and then fate throws them a curve ball. Will Brax be able to convince Ainsley to make the most of their time together and to no longer deny that theirs is more than a mere fling or has Ainsley past marred the way she sees all guys--ball players in particular? Their pasts may be holding them back, but with their presents headed in different directions, could they even have a future together?

Extra Innings met my expectations and the long wait for Brax and Ainsley's story was worth it! These two had me frustrated many a time with their pussyfooting, but when they got their act together, it was obvious how much they simply made sense as a couple. The twist concerning Ainsley's past was one I didn't see coming, but it served as the perfect way to test their relationship, which hadn't truly been tested up to that point. Ainsley wasn't some meek girl who needed a guy to make her feel better about herself. She was independent, loved her younger brother, and had her eye on the prize, but by no means was she perfect. I loved that she was flexible and changed her mind on certain things but stood her ground when it mattered most. As swoony as Brax was, there was one point that I swear I would have thrown a baseball right where it would have hurt that most for how he waffled when it counted. Gah! Extra Innings was just as good as Rounding Third and I can't wait to read the rest of the series and I hope Cade Winslow gets his happy ending with his girl too. I'm giving this second in a series five stars. ♥
