Review: Damaged Locke by Victoria Ashley & Jenika Snow (Locke Brothers #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by the authors via Ardent PRose in exchange for an honest review.

Damaged Locke is the first novella from the writing duo of Victoria Ashley and Jenika Snow in their new Locke Brothers series. These three brothers--Ace, Sterling, and Aston--have a not-so-stellar reputation in their hometown and they're not doing anything dissuade the townsfolk from thinking and believing whatever it is that they want to think and believe. After all, most of it is probably true. They're violent and aggressive and take a no-care attitude when it comes to doing and saying what they want. People keep their distance and that's fine. Barely anyone will look any of the brothers in the eye...until, that is, Aston locks eyes with Kadence King. She seems to be everything that he isn't--gentle, kind, and innocent. But Aston can't help himself. He wants Kadence, wants to claim her all for himself, and when her life is put at risk, he's willing to do whatever necessary to make sure that she remains safe.

I've read quite a few of Jenika Snow's novella and short stories, but this is the first time I've read anything by Victoria Ashley, and I honestly couldn't tell who wrote what in this series starter. There's quite a bit of violence and almost as much sex, but there's actually a story that goes on, so this isn't one of those insta-love stories that are all about falling madly in love with each other from the get-go and then engaging in copious amounts of gratuitous sex. The idea that three brothers who know all about violence decide to become paid vigilantes and dole out their own brand of justice was intriguing, although, if we're being honest here, because this is a short read, there isn't as much delving into what makes the main characters tick as I would have wanted. However, for what I got, I was entertained and was curious enough about Aston's two older brothers as well. Damaged Locke garners four stars. ♥
