Review: Dare to Tease by Carly Phillips (Dare Nation #4.5)

With all of her brothers getting their happily-ever-afters, it's now time for Brianne Prescott, Dare Nation Sports Agency's go-to publicist, to make her way towards her own happy ending. If you've read the Dare Nation series, particularly the previous book, Dare to Stay, then it isn't much of a surprise who she's been paired up with. Dr. Hudson Northfield is her twin brother's best friend, and while Bri may be interested in him, she's pretty sure he's not going to push for anything other than friendship with her. All she wants is someone who will love her for her, and not use her as a means to an end, something she's sadly too familiar with. When Hudson finally decides to cross the line, the chemistry between him and Bri is unlike anything they've ever experienced with anyone else. Bri could love Hudson, but will secrets he keep lead to breaking her heart?

In what I'm guessing is the end to her Dare Nation series, Carly Phillips delivers a satisfying romance that employs the highly popular falling-for-your-sibling's-best-friend--or alternatively, falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling--trope. Everything plays out at a fast pace, and while it can be argued that there was a bit of insta-love happening, the main characters, Brianne and Hudson, have known each other for some time, what with Hudson being best friends with Brianne's twin brother, Braden. It also wasn't as if neither of them had noticed the other in a less than platonic wasy. The attraction was already there, so yeah, I wouldn't necessarily consider theirs insta-love. It was interesting to see how different their dynamic was with their respective families. All in all, Dare to Tease was a quickie read that had everything I've come to expect from Carly Phillips. Four stars.

Review: The Room Mate by Kendall Ryan (Roommates #1)

I do believe I've found myself a new book boyfriend to drool, erm, swoon over in Cannon Roth, male main character in bestselling author Kendall Ryan's Roommates series starter, The Room Mate . This had a familiar romance trope--falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling--and yet I didn't find it boring or tiresome in any way. This has both heart and heat as well as lighthearted humor along with a bit of heart-tugging angst and it's headlined by a couple of main characters that I was totally smitten with from the moment Paige got a pretty good idea of just how much her best friend's younger brother Cannon had grown up from the nerdy boy who followed them around like a puppy when they were kids.
