Review: IOU by Kristy Marie (21 Rumors #1)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Wordsmith Publicity.

"I don't care how many IOUs this will cost me, this is the best day ever!" She wraps her arms around me and squeezes. "Thank you."
"This isn't a favor."
She pulls her head back, shocked. "Then what is it?"
I shrug in her arms. I'm not any good at being myself. It feels off. But she deserves truth, even if it embarrasses me. "A gift. I wanted to make you happy."

Where have you been all my life, Kristy Marie?! Seriously, what the heck?!? I've obviously been missing out, and I need to lay blame on someone. Okay, me; it's totally my fault. With so many authors and even more books, some fall through the cracks. Sigh. HOWEVER, I am now making amends because after reading IOU, I've seen the error of my ways, and my Kindle Unlimited subscription, which only started at the beginning of this year, has been getting a workout and Kristy Marie's back list is now sitting pretty atop my own to-be-read KU list (and that's one long...list).

So, what was it about this new adult (NA) romance that caught my attention and held on to my heart? IOU is the story of two college students, Ainsley James and Maverick Lexington. She needs something from him and is willing to owe him a favor. She's heard the rumors and she knows what owing someone like Maverick may cost. But Ainsley is desperate, and at this point, he's her only hope. The more they interact, she realizes she's in trouble, but not in the ways that everyone may have warned her about. Maverick insists on a contract, but will he break it first?

Go into this blind. Seriously, reading the blurb won't matter much other than you knowing who the main characters are and that there's a favor involved. I'll leave it at that because this is the sort of story that you need to dive into and allow yourself to float along and enjoy the ride. Ainsley and Maverick lead one of the most unforgettable cast of characters I've come across in a long time. I hated a couple of them (for good reason) and adored most, some of whom I wouldn't mind reading more about. And yes, the author has said those are coming!

This had humor, heart, heat, and my much needed angst! Goodness, but how reading this book did my heart--and my mood--good. I loved getting to know Ainsley and Maverick, two very different people in terms of personality, and I fell in love with their story. These two didn't realize just how much they needed each other until they came into one another's lives, just like I didn't realize how much I needed this book and Kristy Marie's writing until IOU landed in my Kindle app. I highly recommend you check this book out as soon as humanly possible. Five-plus stars. ♥
