Review: Behind My Words by J.L. Drake

Behind My Words is a standalone romantic suspense novel, and after a couple or so changes with the release date, it's the much awaited newest book from J.L. Drake. While I've read four of Drake's series over the past three years, this latest release from the author marks my first standalone read from her, and boy, oh boy, but how she managed to leave me even more impressed than I thought possible considering she's consistently done that with every single one of my past reads from her.

Spencer Peters has always had a way with words, but she went from bestselling author to a ghostwriter after the double murder of her parents. She's found solace whilehwhile behind her words, but an opportunity has come along, and it's one that may change the trajectory of her career. Partnered with Detective Blake Daniels, Spencer delves into the case of a serial killer that's several steps ahead of the authorities. Together, they must unravel the clues before the killer ensnares them both.

There's a whole lot more that happens in this book than the blurb hints at. J.L. Drake keeps the story at a steady pace that by the time you get to the end, you can't quite fathom that hours have passed. And speaking of the end, those last few chapters were a doozy! There are twists and then there are TWISTS, and it's clear that Drake has no qualms messing with my head. I seriously had my hanging open in shock. No spoilers, so you need to read Behind My Words. You can thank me later. Five stars. 🖤
